Zen was a young boy from a remote village in the Human World who aspired to become a professional Gourmet Hunter and capture ingredients that could cure any ailment. He was the brief but cherished combo partner of legendary chef Yuda who died shortly after asking Yuda to become his partner.

Zen made a great impact in Yuda's life, turning him into the wise man he is today and his memory is forever honored in Yuda's restaurant, Zen Ou.

Appearance[]

Zen was a young light skinned boy (possibly an adolescent child) of average stature for his age with chin length black hair. Around his head he wore a light-colored headband. He wore a simple outfit that was quite dirty due to his many battles along with a leather strap which he wore over his shoulder which held his sword's sheath.

Personality[]

Zen was an ambitious and kind young boy with a selfless nature who loved his village and only wished to heal the sick. His wish to become a hunter was mainly to create the perfect Full Course to cure any illness.

Powers and Abilities[]

Zen, like most of his fellow villagers suffered from a severe illness, but despite this and his age, he constantly pushed himself to the limit to capture the ingredients needed to cure his fellow villagers. Despite that his Full Course included ingredients with a Capture Level of 20, if not for Yuda's intervention, he would have been killed by a Medicine Cattle, although this was likely due to his worsening health. Zen was apparently a poor cook and was unable to make his medicinal ingredients taste good for others.

Equipment[]

In combat, Zen used a small sword which he was quite proficient with.

History[]

Past[]

During Yuda's youth, the chef met Zen attempting to capture a Medicine Cattle however Zen was struggling against the beast despite its low Capture Level. Yuda assisted Zen and captured the beast for him. Yuda then carried Zen back to his village and realized the village was plagued with a disease. As a medicinal chef, Yuda prepared the medicinal food in order to heal the villagers but because it is mainly a medicine, the food had undesirable taste which caused a number of the villagers to not eat the food. When Zen and Yuda met once again, Zen asked Yuda if he was a real chef as the medicine had terrible taste, Yuda replies by saying he can make tasty food too. Despite the comment however, Zen wished to become a Gourmet Hunter and asked Yuda if he would form a combo with him. Yuda was merely amused by the child's comment on creating an invincible combo, stating that the boy's skill was not balanced with his. Before Yuda could continue to finish his comment, Zen coughs out blood rapidly, shocking the medicinal chef. Yuda then realized that when he prepared the antidote for the village, he needed to create two separate openings during the preparation stages of the antidote cooking to separate the children's antidote from the adult's (which is a mere one millimeter), however due his overconfidence, Yuda didn't see that he had made the mistake when he cooked the medicine for Zen, inadvertently causing Zen's death.

Despite Zen's inadvertent death, Zen's fellow villagers did not blame Yuda for the incident as Zen was known for straining himself too much in order to ensure that his fellow children and villagers can be saved. They all believed that while Zen may have passed away, he is still smiling. A fellow villager then gave Zen's Full Course Menu to Yuda, which Yuda took for himself ever since in order to honor Zen. Zen's name would also be honored by Yuda as he would eventually name his restaurant after the young child.

ANOTHER Arc[]

During his cooking battle with Condor Window, Yuda's Full Course was mocked by the overconfident Condor for its low capture levels, however Yuda spoke of the meaning behind these ingredients and their importance which far outweighed trivial capture levels. Yuda then remembered his first meeting with Zen and his promise to honor his wishes and memory. These memories would eventually give Yuda the encouragement he needed to defeat Condor and come out victorious in Grill Stadium.

Full Course Menu[]

The ingredients in Zen's Full Course Menu were picked for their medicinal aspects and together they could cure almost any ailment. Despite their low capture levels, these ingredients represent the dreams and ambitions of Zen which are also carried by Yuda who adopted this Full Course as his own and honored Zen's wishes to make these poorly tasting medicines into delicious meals for any sick individual to enjoy.
