Terry Cloth (テリークロス, Terīkurosu) is a Battle Wolf that was adopted by Toriko and became his Animal Partner after the tragic loss of his mother. Terry sees Toriko as a parental figure; a big surprise, since Battle Wolves never become attached to humans. Terry got his name from how Toriko described his fur. Only a few foods suit his taste, such as foods from the Gourmet World.
Terry is a young Battle Wolf pup with completely white fur, black eyes with pink pupils and he has two blue markings on each side of his face below his eyes which resemble horizontal scars. At the beginning of the story, Terry (despite having just been born) was already about the size of a regular adult wolf, due to him being a Battle Wolf, the largest and strongest breed of wolf in the world. Even his mother was of impressive size, being larger than an elephant. As the series has continued, Terry has been shown to be growing at an incredible rate despite still being a child and by the end of the Century Soup Arc he was already twice the size of Toriko upon his return. Later after the events of the Shining Gourami Arc, Terry is shown to have once again grown large enough for even Toriko to be able to ride on its back. Currently Terry is now three times larger than before, having grown to be as large as him mother, and can easily carry adult humans like Toriko and Rin upon the back of his head with ease.
Terry is a very loyal and affectionate Battle Wolf and has a great deal of compassion for Toriko, seeing him as a parental figure of sorts and also treats Toriko's friends with absolute kindness. These traits however are very odd for his species which are known to be loners who swear fealty to no one. Toriko has trained Terry to become more independent, but despite Toriko's training, Terry still cannot cease to show its affections for Toriko and is always as happy as can be whenever they're together. Eventually, Toriko chose to be more affectionate to Terry and treat him like a prodigal child of sorts due to being assured that Terry has the capacity to take care of himself. Like a true Battle Wolf though, Terry has always been shown as being a fearless and intelligent creature who will not hesitate to go into dangerous situations, especially when it involves those he cares for and he has had this trait since he was a newborn. Toriko has also taught Terry about his eating philosophies and the value of the lives of the creatures they hunt and to be grateful to them for the food they provide.
While Terry technically does not have a Full Course Menu, he is still a picky eater and prefers food from Gourmet World rather than the food found in the Human World due to his Battle Wolf genes, but he has been taught the value of the lives of Ingredients and that he should appreciate the food they provide. Because of this, he has become less finicky about his eating habits. Currently the only Gourmet World food Terry eats is Blue Blood Corn and it appears to be his favorite dish. The only Human World food he's been seen eating are the Jewel Meat and the Crab Pig, although it is unknown if either is his primary meat dish.
Appearances in Other MediaEdit
Terry Cloth made his original debut in the second Toriko pilot chapter Oneshot 2007. In it, Terry is Toriko's loyal animal partner and is pretty much unchanged from his eventual final design, the only exception being that he wears a saddle (which he would later wear in the mains series) and during the events of the story he is only slightly larger than a horse. In the story, Terry and Toriko are traveling together when they are approached by a desperate Komatsu who is seeking Toriko's aid in saving his village from the vicious Mammoth Bear. Toriko agrees to help him and then they ride off on Terry to seek it out. They eventually manage to reach the Mammoth Bear's territory but are confronted by dozens of angry and hungry beasts who attack them. Terry then throws himself at the beasts in order to give Toriko and Komatsu enough time to reach the Mammoth Bear. After Toriko defeats the Mammoth Bear, he reunites with a slightly wounded Terry and after receiving their thanks from Komatsu they once again depart to seek out new ingredients.
Toriko Jump SpecialEdit
Terry made a cameo appearance in the end credits of the Toriko Jump Super Anime Tour Special 2009.
Toriko 3D MovieEdit
Terry along with his mother appears in the ending credits of Toriko 3D Movie: Kaimaku! Gourmet Adventure!! which briefly shows the moment after his birth.
One Piece x Toriko CrossoverEdit
Terry appears in the first manga crossover with One Piece near the end of the story where after Toriko and Luffy gather all the ingredients they'll need for a party, they invite all their friends to Gourmet Island (which includes Terry) where they all dine on the delicious feast prepared by Komatsu.
Toriko: Gourmet SurvivalEdit
In Toriko: Gourmet Survival, Terry appears as an assist character early on who can accompany Toriko on hunts throughout Megamori Island. He is fast and nimble and can perform several strong and fast attacks.
Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2Edit
In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Terry appears once again as an assist character that can help Toriko capture ingredients around the Gattsuki Continent. He has the same attacks as in the previous games.
Toriko: Gourmet MonstersEdit
In Toriko: Gourmet Monsters for the Nintendo 3DS, Terry appears as Toriko's animal partner and can be used in the Gourmet Royale coliseum battles to fight other beasts and level up. More beasts can be tamed and added to Toriko's team for the coliseum battles and can be used in teams alongside Terry. Terry can also be used to hunt and capture animals for battle.
During the game's story, Terry helps Toriko in capturing and taming several beasts, but near the end of the game, Terry is kidnapped Kimera and has his mind and body altered by him, turning Terry into a black furred "Jet Black Battle Wolf" with a dark aura and renames him the "Dark Wolf", and under his control he tries to use Terry against Toriko, but in the end Toriko is able to restore Terry back to normal. Terry's dark form can then be unlocked as a tamable beast.
- He ranked 5th in the first Popularity Poll with 1254 votes.
- Terry's gender was constantly inconsistent in earlier chapters due to the Japanese language using gender neutral descriptions, so it was unknown whether Terry was male or female until the release of his Gourmet Checklist data in Volume 29.5.
