In other words, it has harmony. You get it, Toriko? Harmony... Friggin' harmony!

—Sunny, to Toriko while eating in Kuriuni Pasta.

Sunny (サニー Sanī) is one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" (四天王 Shitennou) and Rin's older brother.[1] He has a way of 'knocking' without even touching the target, mostly related to his 'sensor' talent which allows him to know the physical state of those around him. He seeks "harmony" in his dishes which is the perfect use of ingredients, perfect handling of the food and most importantly producing a perfect taste.[2] He, and the other Four Heavenly Kings, were trained by Ichiryu, the President of the IGO. As of the Shining Gourami arc, he also has a child Mother Snake as an Animal Partner, called Quinn.

AppearanceEdit

Art009Sunny Expressions

Sunny is a 24 year old and tall man (not as tall as the other Heavenly Kings) with a very effeminate appearance. He wears a shirt, covering it with a vest that resembles Rin's, while his bottom outfit is the same color as his shirt. His face has sharp, defined features, making him rather attractive, if not pretty. His hair is long, flows downwards and is colored white, blue, green and pink along each strand, each color determining different usages. His 'sensor' is actually one millon super-thin hairs extending from his own, normal-sized hair strands, that can reach a maximum of 300 meters in length. Sunny's body has a very high body temperature and powerful sense of touch, being touched by his hair or any part of his body can only be described as Sunny tasting whatever he's touching. [3]

Anime and Manga differencesEdit

Sunny's clothes colorscheme is different in the anime. While the manga shows Sunny's shirt and pants purple and his vest and arm bands redish brown, in the anime, the shirt and pants are pink and the vest and arm bands are blue.

PersonalityEdit

Sunny is a seemingly calm and collected man who judges the 'beauty' of all things and speaks in an elegant almost flirting manner, which adds to his already flamboyant appearance. He openly shows his distaste for things that are not beautiful and abhors everything he deems 'icky' and 'ugly', sometimes making him burst out in a comical manner. Even though he isn't above praising 'delicious food' for its beauty and taste, he will usually refrain from openly admitting it, if someone else had a moment of 'beauty' (Coco's entrance rescuing the party in the Regal Mammoth Arc). While more inclined to hide it, seeing himself as 'less beautiful' in that state, he shows his anger when alone or when he becomes irritated by pointless and savage actions, like the Gourmet Corp. killing animals for no apparent reason. He was stated to be "beautiful deep inside of his heart" by Coco. He likes to use his touch on people in order to know their diet based on their skin texture. He likes to demonstrate his strength, but at the same time dislikes to touch or challenge creatures of lesser beauty.[4]

Full Course MenuEdit

Full Course Menu: Notably, all ingredients on Sunny's menu are related to skin care. Toriko even calls his Full Course the "most unbalanced" of the Four Heavenly Kings'. However, his food preferences are also shown based on nutritional value as well as appearance. Sunny is considering the ingredient "EARTH" as his dessert dish, and is the closest of the Kings in completing his Full Course Menu.[5]

One Piece x Toriko CrossoverEdit

MangaEdit

Sunny makes an appearance near the end of the One Piece x Toriko Crossover manga special, where he along with several other characters from both franchises show up for the big dinner party prepared by Toriko and Luffy.

AnimeEdit

Sunny appears in the anime's first Toriko x One Piece Crossover in the second half of the story alongside Rin and Coco, who came to Hungry-la Island to help Toriko and Komatsu on their hunt for the island's legendary ingredient. When they arrive they find Toriko and Luffy's group surrounded by Caste Leos and they quickly manage to subdue them with their abilities. The complete group then heads out to the mountain where Cocoalas reside to save Nami and Komatsu, who were taken away by them as an offering to the Knock-out Koala. Once the group arrives to the mountain they and Sunny fight off the feral Cocoalas while Toriko and Luffy deal with the giant Knock-out Koala who has Nami and Komatsu captive. After Toriko and Luffy manage to defeat it, the Straw Hats and the Four Heavenly Kings bid each other farewell, however the two groups remain perplexed to the identities of the members in each other's group who they did not get the chance to meet.

Sunny appears in the anime's second Toriko x One Piece Crossover as well. In it, he grew quite fond of the Straw Hats ship, the Thousand Sunny, likely due to having the same name and it being a beautiful ship.

One Piece x Toriko x Dragon BallEdit

In this special crossover featuring characters from Toriko, One Piece and Dragon Ball, Sunny appears in the stands cheering on Toriko in his fight against Luffy and Goku. Later along with the rest of the characters, he is seen contending in the race to capture the Big Toro.
