A King Landler (キングレントラー Kingurentorā) is a gigantic ape-like beast that lives in the Underground Forest, in Gourmet World.

Anatomy[]

King Landler

Full view and size of the King Landler.

The King Landler is a giant ape standing at 58 meters in height, around the same size as an Air Tree, and can easily dwarf a tall human being. It is a very muscular and large behemoth that can weigh around 850 tons, showing just how massive and dense its girth is. However it is unknown how much of an effect gravity has on its weight since its habitat was 20,000 feet below sea level. It has dark pink skin (light pink in the anime) and its entire body with the exception of its face, chest, feet and claws, is covered in spiky white fur. It notably lacks the hands common to most primates and instead has two large pincer-like claws. It also has dark blue eyes with several bags underneath them, pointy ears and very large and sharp fangs.

Abilities[]

It's an incredibly strong beast, capable of withstanding Toriko's 15-hit Nail Punch with only a slightly damaged finger. It was also able to approach an Air Tree without any of the negative effects, such as the eye trauma Toriko experienced. The King Lander was also able to fight on equal grounds with an Asura Tiger for a short time before Knocking Master Jiro used his Intimidation Knocking to frighten them into fleeing.

History[]

The Reality of Gourmet World Arc[]

When Toriko's impatience leads him to enter the Gourmet World before his training is complete, he chooses to enter it through the Waterfall Basin of Life, which leads straight into Zabel Island's Underground Forest. Upon landing (after being attacked by a Breath Dragon) he is quickly overcome by the forest's intense gravity, but before he can act, he is confronted by the vicious Asura Tiger. Luckily, Toriko is able to release a Leg Knife on the Asura Tiger's paw; however this only irritates the tiger and it effortlessly smacks Toriko away into the territory of a King Landler and an Air Tree. The Air Tree's unique air pressure and the King Landler's strength prove to be too much for Toriko and eventually the Asura Tiger returns to reclaim its prey. The King Landler is not willing to share its prey with the tiger and quickly attacks it, giving Toriko enough time to escape.[1]

Later, after Toriko is saved from a pack of Mamew by Jiro, the Asura Tiger and King Landler reappear and are still fighting each other. Finding them annoying, Jiro quickly settles down the two beasts with a powerful Intimidation Knocking, causing the two beasts to run away in fear.[2]

Cooking Festival Arc[]

When Toriko returned to the Underground Forest, both Asura Tiger and King Landler were fighting each other as they were doing last time, only to notice the young Gourmet Hunter appear before them whom they allowed to enter the Gourmet World.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

In the anime, it is given more imposing and fearsome facial features and larger fangs, its eyes are also shown bigger and with an angrier expression. It is also more lean and muscular compared to its hunched appearance in the manga. Its skin is also lighter in color than in the manga.

Varieties[]

In the video game series, the Asura Tigers are shown to have a variety of different subspecies:

The King Landler, along with the Asura Tiger and the Mamew appear as enemies in the game Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2 along with numerous subspecies, such as the Naked Landler and the Grand Landler. The beast appears in one of the final areas of the Gattsuki Continent, along with other Gourmet World beasts that have been driven out and made their home there. In the game it is given a measured capture level of 48 to 53, most likely now being measured without taking Gourmet World's environment into account.
