Synopsis[]

Toriko, Komatsu, and Coco venture into the Pleasure Zone on quest to track down some extremely rare Meteor Garlic, but they soon cross paths with an old friend who could use their help!

Plot[]

Toriko, Komatsu, and Coco set for central Jidal Kingdom through the Underground Train. Toriko and Coco were enjoying a drink in high spirits throughout the ride, while Komatsu was afraid, as the train, the tunnel, and the people around them all looked scary. Komatsu then asked Coco what Jidal Kingdom was like, as Coco came to train there before, and Coco replied that it’s a country where crime runs rampant, and that the Gourmet Casino is located there due to it not being affiliated with IGO and its 8 Gourmet Laws, hence, lots of unobtainable illegal ingredients (toxics, narcotics) circulate through the Jidal Kingdom’s black markets and are displayed at the Casino. Toriko mentions one of those ingredients, the Meteor Garlic is their target. It boosts stamina enough to not need rest for a whole month, and is thus restricted, and only circulated in Jidal.

Meanwhile, at Nerg City, a boy was wandering around in hunger, and got lured to a train track by an Electric Banana, only to be saved by Ram. Toriko and the others finally reach Jidal Kingdom, and as soon as they do, a group of thugs come after them. Toriko enjoyed pretending to be scared, but soon scared them off with Fork and Intimidation, mentioning how rare it is for common folk to threaten him. They ventured through the Black Market, where Komatsu was approached by several merchants offering poisonous, narcotic ingredients, until Komatsu ordered some Juicytakes after Toriko and Coco told him they’ll need ingredients for the Casino. Match was passing by and saw them buying food. As they approached the Casino more, everything around them changed; the townspeople were VIPs, and the buildings modernized, with tall hotels and luxurious shops.

Finally, they reach the Casino, where they stood in awe to absorb their surroundings in, and just when Komatsu was getting excited, a thief came running by, 2 security guards aiming guns at him, and 2 VIPs betting on him dying or escaping; Toriko used his Fork Shield to capture the thief. Amidst the confusion, another thief reached for Komatsu’s wallet, but Match and his gang arrived and scared him off. After reminiscing about the past, Ram came reporting to Match, referring to him as ‘boss’, which piqued Komatsu’s interest into asking about it, only to hear that former Gourmet Yakuza’s boss, Ryu, was invited by Yosaku to Gourmet World, and left everything to Match. Match inquires if they’ve come for a high-class ingredient on the Casino’s display, and they affirmed, and asked him why he, the Mafia boss, would come to Jidal; Match explained how narcotic ingredients were circulating around Nerg, with the Underground Cooking World organization and its Boss, Livebearer, whose base is the Casino, behind it all. Coco mentions that as he’s a fortune teller, he knows it’s impossible to get rid of the ingredients at their current level through force, but only by gambling. Inviting Match along with them, they end up at the Appetite Labyrinth, the casino’s general main area, which leaves Komatsu struck at how humongous its extend is. At the same time, Livebearer was seen laughing in his room.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

  • In the manga, Toriko's hair looked shorter than the anime's, and his clothes had more colored patterns to it than in the anime.
  • In the anime, Coco was the one who mentioned about the Underground Train and how it lead to Jidal, while in the manga, Toriko did.
  • In the anime, when Coco mentioned 'the most valuable things in gourmet age', Komatsu then replied with 'ingredients?', and Coco affirmed, while in the manga, Coco said it all.
  • In the anime, Toriko didn't mention that the Meteor Garlic is also nicknamed "Doping Garlic".
  • In the anime, Coco didn't mention that circulating ingredients had something to do with the 'Underground Cooking World'.
  • In the manga, the Nerg kid wasn't wandering around for food, but was hypnotized and lured in by the Electric Banana. Also, in the manga, he didn't step on a train track, but stood in front of the train's tunnel. In the anime though, after Ram saved him, he gave him chocolate, while in the manga, he mentioned he'll cure the kid, and offered the kid enter the Gourmet Yakuza then.
  • In the manga, the Jidal thugs they met looked slightly different; their boss had more patterns to his clothes than the anime's, the muscular one had 4 scars on his head unlike 3 in the anime, and the 5th one on the right had more patterns to his clothes, and had a yakuza-looking face with a beard. In the manga, Komatsu thought of Zonge when the thugs came picking on them. In the anime, Toriko screamed "I'm scared" like a little kid to add more humour to the moment. When the thugs shot, an explosion showed in the manga, while not in the anime.
  • In the anime, Coco mentioned the black market and how it's full of ingredients brought in through illegal channels, while in the manga, Coco mentioned he sees strong electromagnetic waves (the casino), and was just walking silently through the market. In the manga, Komatsu was the one who said "it sure is busy here", while in the anime, it was Toriko.
  • In the anime, Komatsu didn't mutter '1 million were poisoned' in shock to what Toriko said about the Poison Star.
  • In the anime, Toriko didn't mention the Electric Banana hypnotizes into thinking one died and is in heaven.
  • In the manga, Coco mentioned that not all black market ingredients are dangerous, to which Komatsu agreed when he found the Juicytake, while in the anime, Coco didn't say anything, and Komatsu just found it himself.
  • When Match spotted them buying Mushrooms in the anime, Coco was on the right, and Toriko on the left, while in the manga, it was the opposite.
  • In the anime, Coco didn't mention that the whole world loves gambling before mentioning VIPs come to play.
  • In the anime, Komatsu asked if they were approacing the Casino, to which Coco replied is right ahead, while in the manga, Komatsu never asked.
  • In the anime, the floor before entering the casino was made up of gold, while in the manga, it looked like normal bricks.
  • In the anime, Coco mentioned that 100 trillion yen are exchanged in the casino everyday, while in the manga, it was on the narration at the chapter's start.
  • In the manga, the fat VIP's hat was bigger. In the manga, their bet on the thief was 'run or get caught', while in the anime, it was 'run or die'. In the manga, the thief was shot in the head by the security guards, while in the anime, Toriko caught him with Fork Shield. In the anime, Coco mentioned the security can go too far, unlike the manga.
  • In the manga, the security guards were wearing white, while in the anime, black. In the manga, the guard wearing glasses was the one with the gun, while in the anime, it was his partner. In the anime, there were only 2 guards, while in the manga, there were 5.
  • In the anime, another thief was trying to snatch Komatsu's wallet when Match interfered, while in the manga, no thief was there, and Match just appeared. In the anime, flashbacks were added when Match appeared. In the anime, Toriko welcomed Match, while in the manga, it was Komatsu who did so, and also welcomed Shin and Louie. In the manga, Coco asked if they're Gourmet Yakuza, and Toriko reassured him they're decent ones. In the manga, when Match mentioned they'll need to enter the VIP area, Toriko was the one asking about it, unlike Komatsu in the anime. In the manga, Ram mentioned that Nerg children were showing toxification symptoms, which was skipped in the anime. In the anime, Ram was the one mentioning how Match 'was' the number 2 man, but now is the boss, while in the manga, Match did all the talking. In the anime, Toriko was asking amidst Match's talk, while in the manga, they heard Match till the end.
  • In the manga, Match was the one who mentioned everything about the Underground Cooking World, while in the anime, Toriko mentioned part of it.
  • In the anime, Ram mentioned they didn't want to see Nerg kids eating Electric Bananas, which wasn't there in the manga.
  • In the manga, Match didn't unsheathe his sword when he was swearing to protect Nerg of the filthy narcotics, while in the anime, he did.
  • In the manga, Toriko patted Match's left shoulder when he was persuading him to tag along, while in the anime, it was the right shoulder. In the anime, Komatsu also joined in in persuading Match to join them by mentioning that they should leave this to Coco. In the anime, the Gourmet Yakuza were happy when Match agreed to take it legally by gambling, which wasn't in the manga. In the anime, Match took his time to decide to join them, while in the manga, he was seen thinking to himself, but agreed right away.
  • In the anime, Coco mentioned that up ahead is the Appetite Labyrinth, and more scenes were added on the way there, while in the manga, it was just narrated. In the anime, in reply to Komatsu's surprise about the casino's space, Coco mentioned it's just a section of it.
  • In the anime, a scene was added with Livebearer laughing in his bed, but the tattoos were censored to black clothing.

Trivia[]

  • The ending changed to Niji.
  • The scar-headed thug had 3 scars in 2 scenes, and was changed to 4 scars like in the manga later.
  • The green-wearing thug had no facial hair, but was slightly fixed to match the manga in his final scene.
